It’s November and the rains have stopped. The fields of rice are turning golden under the clear, blue skies. In another month it will start to get cool in the evenings, but for now it is way too hot. On the roads are trucks carrying combine harvesters for hire, as the farmers start to harvest the rice, that will keep them going for the next year and provide a pittance of cash to set aside for basics and emergencies. The landscape becomes scarred as this year’s cycle ends, but there is new growth to come and another year in which to start again.
